Gerald J Swanda and Lavern Fortik started Spark Electric in 1972 on a part-time basis. In June, 1972 the business became a corporation. In 1994, Swanda started working full-time, and in May 1998, Fortik sold his share of the business to Swanda, who is the present owner.
