The origional bank of Brainard was founded on 11/18/1886 by A.K. Smith and Tom McKnight. The bank was origionally in a Real Estate office located where the water tower is today. In 1900 the building that is now City Hall was the new location of the bank. The origional capital of the bank was $1,500.00. In 1928 the bank was sold to Charles and Louis Novak. In 1967 the Novak Brothers remodeled the Faulk Store, which is where the bank is located today. In 1968 the Novak Brothers sold the bank to John Wagner and Affiliates. The Wagner family owned the bank until 1994 when Leroy Trofholz purchased a share of the bank. The bank was renamed from Bank of Brainard to First Nebraska Bank in 1986. At that time it became a branch bank within the Holding Company. The outside of the bank was remodeled in 1886 and a Drive-though was added. The inside of the bank was remodeled in 1995. The Bank Group has assets of $140,000,000 and is one of the eight branches within the Holding Company.

The bank also has an Insurance Agency and an Investment Representative. It also offers all lines of loans, Agriculture, Commercial, and Consumer Secondary Market Mortgages and Guarunteed Loans.
